What is star wars day

Firstly, what even is star wars day and why am I sharing this co*cktail now?

Star Wars day is an informal commemorative day observed annually on May 4th to celebrate George Lucas' Star Wars media franchise. May the fourth be with you, may the force be with you, get it?

There’s basically no other day I deem acceptable to share this then May the 4th, unless a new movie is released that is.

What is the baby Yoda co*cktail

Now we’ve got star wars day out the way, you’re probably wondering what exactly the baby Yoda co*cktail even is. Let me explain.

The baby Yoda co*cktail is a drink consisting of Vodka, lime, sugar and kiwi, which has an adorable resemblance to baby Yoda or Grogu if you want to be that guy.

You may of seen it floating around Instagram from time to time. It was created at the Vault bar and pizza restaurant in Banbridge Northern Ireland. Created by Michael Young who is the co-owner of said pizza restaurant.

How it went viral

So how does a co*cktail from a small Irish pizza restaurant go viral? Other than the obvious reason, it's super cute looking.

For that, we have Jennifer Aniston to thank. A while ago now, Jennifer Aniston - Yes, that Jennifer Aniston (former friends actress and Hollywood super star) reposted the co*cktail on her Instagram stories, after which Instagram went mad for the adorable drink.

Funny how a little thing like an Instagram story share from a A lister can make something go viral.

Since its creation in 2019, every year and the time in-between this co*cktail gets re-shared and re-shared with plenty of people both drink enthusiasts and professional bartenders trying to recreate the adorable looking drink. For that, I am here to help.

Above is a screen shot from her share by the way, just in case you was wondering what she said about it.

How to make the Baby Yoda co*cktail

So, with all that being said, here’s how you make the baby Yoda co*cktail, both taste and look, so you can spend May the 4th in style this year sipping from the head of baby Yoda.

Ingredients

Ingredient wise it’s a pretty simple co*cktail. Nothing should be too difficult for you to get hold of no matter where you’re trying to make this.

Which also means if you’re not a professional bartender then you don’t need to worry. Other than a good co*cktail shaker, you won’t need any fancy equipment.

Here’s a list of ingredients to check of that you have:

  • Grey goose vodka (any vodka will do if you don’t have grey goose, just make sure it’s a nice one)

  • Fresh Lime juice

  • Demerara sugar syrup (Don’t worry, we will get into how to make this)

  • Peeled Kiwi

  • Ice (to shake and chill)

Equipment

Like I said above, you don’t really need any fancy equipment. The one thing you do need is a good co*cktail shaker set.

Once you’ve got your co*cktail shaker set it’s time for the glassware, any glass will do but for the perfect look you want a nice coupe like this one.

After that, it’s the stuff to make it look like baby yoda.

How to make your baby Yoda co*cktail look like baby Yoda

For the ears

You will need 2 lime wedges.

For the eyes

You will need 2 black olives on a skewer, 4.5 inches or 7 inches depending on your glass.

For the clothes

Wrap a small cut of burlap round the co*cktail. If you don’t have and don’t want to buy burlap, use craft paper.

How to make the demerara sugar syrup

Mix equal parts demerara sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil whilst stirring.

Once the sugar has fully dissolved take off the heat and allow to cool then bottle and refrigerate.

Credits

Full credit for the creation goes to Michael Young at the vault for the creation of this co*cktail. As well as Jennifer Aniston for sharing it, as we probably wouldn't have seen this outside the town it originated without her!

Now for that bit you have been waiting for, the recipe!
