The first round of the NFL Draft served as a reminder of how dominant the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs were last year. The SEC rivals had seven players drafted between them, including a record five players just off Georgia’s defense alone.
It is no secret that having NFL talent on your roster gives teams a massive edge and that the SEC has had the most of it recently. Of the last 16 college football national champions, 12 have come from the SEC. Thus, it makes sense that three of the top five teams in terms of futures odds to win the 2022-23 national championship once again hail from that conference.

Alabama's College Football National Championship Odds +200 (Bet $100 to win $200)
Anytime a college football team brings back a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the previous season, their outlook will be pretty good. However, the Crimson Tide should arguably have the best players in the country on both sides of the ball, as linebacker Will Anderson is an absolute force. In addition, the losses of wide receivers John Metchie and Jameson Williams are offset by bringing in transfer Jermaine Burton, who was Georgia’s leading wideout last season.
The offensive line is Alabama’s biggest question mark entering next season, especially after losing top-talent Evan Neal. However, we trust that Nick Saban reloaded the cupboard, and there is no one better in the sport to get the most out of his players.

Losing five players in the first round of the NFL Draft leaves a lot of holes in Georgia’s defense. However, Kirby Smart is one of the best recruiters in the country, and there is little doubt the Bulldogs used the momentum of last year’s championship to win big on the recruiting trail.
Like Alabama, Georgia is set at the most crucial position on the field as Stetson Bennett returns to defend the national championship. Bennett no longer has to look over his shoulder or answer constant questions about whether or not he may lose his job to JT Daniels, as Daniels transferred to West Virginia. Georgia and Alabama are the clear class of the SEC, and both have an easier path to the College Football Playoff even if they do not win the conference championship, thanks to the SEC’s reputation.

Many will speculate what Ohio State’s offense will look like without its top two wideouts, Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, who were both selected in the top 11 picks of the NFL Draft. However, we already got a glimpse of that in the Rose Bowl when the Buckeyes scored 48 points on a stout Utah defense.
Jaxon Smith-Njibga is set to be the next highly touted wide receiver prospect from Ohio State, and the last time we saw him in action, he had 15 catches for 347 yards and three touchdowns against Utah. With his receiving skills, CJ Stroud at quarterback, and Treveyon Henderson at running back, the Buckeyes have arguably the best trio of offensive weapons in the country.

USC's College Football National Championship Odds +2500 (Bet $100 to win $2500)
USC has finished in the top-10 of the final AP Poll just once in the last ten seasons, but that is why they brought in head coach Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to try and change their fate. It may be too much to ask of Riley in his first season at the helm to get the Trojans to the College Football Playoff. However, quarterback Caleb Williams knows Riley’s system after following him over from Oklahoma, and there is not too much competition at the top of the Pac-12 this season outside of Utah. If the Trojans can edge the Utes for the conference championship (USC has won two of the last three meetings), a CFB berth is not out of the question.
